View Full Version : Three Northerns
You've heard of the Three Tenors? Well, there are Three Northerns now available in the Skinning section, the Meteor, the Northern Lights and the historic Daylight of the Southern Pacific Lines.
Here are the links for the Northern Lights (http://members.aol.com/ephpics/images/NorthernLights.jpg) and the Daylight (http://members.aol.com/ephpics/images/Daylight.jpg).
The Meteor can be seen on the skinning page, and the Daylight has been improved since this shot.

nice i like them, did you ever do any of the disel locomotives?
Hi fourteen, thanks for the comment!
The Northerns were a lot of fun because the 'semi-streamlining' shield on the side makes a nice canvas to paint on! By contrast, the GG1 and the F3 diesel have proven difficult because they are so 'shaded'; the GG1 is just green tones and the F3 is seemingly all-blue.
So, no, I haven't gone any farther with the diesels or later electrics, partly because I've been down with sinus crud and my home computer developed a virus.
Plus, there hasn't been a lot of response to the logos and trains I've already done, so I have kinda wondered if I should proceed.
If you have a favorite loco, let me know - no promises, but I'll see what I can do.
Again, thanks for the comment - I wish more people would give me feedback, good or bad as long as it's constructive.

If you enjoy doing it then carry on, people will pick this stuff up without always commenting. I download all the paintjobs etc. because I then have them if I want to use them. Don't be discouraged your paint jobs are better than most (especially mine)
Thanks for the encouragement, kriss. There's no doubt I'll eventually do more for my own enjoyment, but comments and constructive criticism helps. I wouldn't say I'm discouraged, just in a lull.
Like you, I download just about everything. And - to my own discredit - I don't always comment, either. So I'll change my behavior and hope others will, too.

yes i like your work also, i have done some reskining on the f3, and the gp7 myself, so i know what you mean. Thinking of making a blank template for the reskining, whould just have to add the colors then. The couple i did, i used some drawing i got of the web, and pasted over the pictures, kinda works, takes time figureing out what goes where. Then have to load the game and see how it works. I have someback ground in retexturing star trek ships for starfleet command 2 and 3, lest on those i can modify the model, and look at outside the game saves a bunch of time over this way.
I check back ever few days looking to see if you have donw anymore work. If there is a need for blank templates i will lok into doing some, have looked at quite a few of the models, some seam easier the others, a few when i looked at them i cringed.
keep up the work, speaking for myself i like your work, i know how lack of people saying anything can be, i stopped doing the startrek models for other people, and just do them for myself these days for the same reasons you stated. Can not think of any favorte loco that i would like redone off the top of my head.
I use 'blanks' myself - made one for the 2D2 and one for the Northern, for sure.
My home computer is currently 'afflicted' so it'll be at least a few weeks before I have anything else to offer.
For the F3, check out http://pages.tca.net/lruback/f3_page.htm
Makes me drool, frankly.
Anyway, thanks again for the comments & encouragement. If you have something ready for the F3 or GP7 I'd like to see them.
I have finally a Windows system up and running and I'm taking my time to check out these skins.
Comment:
Wow! Great skins all three! The black one (Meteor?) is the best in my opinion, even if I don't usually like of dark colors.
I'm glad you like them! My favorite is the 'Northern Lights', but that color scheme is really too modern for this loco.
The 'Meteor' is an original design; the 'Daylight' is as authentic as I can make it.
The long, flat semi-streamlining on the Northern makes it very easy to customize. Let me know if you have a suggestion for a color scheme.

Well, if you need ideas, here are some suggestions:
- In my opinion steam engines looks best in the primary colors combined with some black. So you could try one of these: Blue and black like the Mallard, green and black like Class 500, S3 or the A1 reskin you did or even a red and black in the style of Class 01. For more ideas look at pictures of British steam engines.
- If you want something more challenging, try to transfer a livery of a specify company to it. For example Milwaukee Road livery, BNSF livery, UP livery, ...
