Before the trains there were the canals, but boats are not good with changes in height and there's few canals that can be persuaded to run up hills.

So... locks were put into place. There's a lock near our house, it's the twelfth lock on the grand canal and it's also home to a rather nice bar/bistro/hotel called... The Twelfth Lock.

They serve a very, VERY nice breakfast bap... Two sausages, Two rashers of bacon, Two fried eggs, all on a bap :) Delicious.

They also have wireless internet access... So guess where I had breakfast this morning? and guess where I'm typing this? :)

Anyways, thought you guys might like to see it. (The place, not the bap, sorry I had eaten it!)

I wouldn't mind having breakfast there myself.
I like that building.
What is a bap?

The barges were called narrow boats, now you're not gonna tell me you have BIGGER canals in America are you? We already know you have bigger baps

Twelfth Lock is also a hotel and has a couple of boats moored beside it that you can hire as accomodation. We're quite tempted to put our next set of visiting guests into them as it would be a rather interesting experience I think.

We're also considering doing that for our wedding night when we finally get around to getting married. :)

Now that would be so cool; right up my alley, or lock-as the case may be. :D

We are going there tonight for food, I'll see if I can get a pic of the boats when I'm there.

And you'll be inspired to code a new game "Canal Boat Tycoon"
