View Full Version : Reskinning the Bipolar

I've been playing around with the skinning tools and having a lot of fun with logos and locos alike.

The ony real problem I have run into is with the Bipolar (I don't remember the designation). I use this one a lot in mountainous terrain and thought it would look good in a different paint job.

Bear in mind I have reskinned a dozen trains or so and some in multiple sets of livery (none historic, just done to suit me). The Atlantic and Pacific turned out well, as did the 2D2 (the tiger-stripe was wrong for the period but it looks cool :D ).

So I pulled up the Bipolar, repainted the green as blue, saved and build it with the skinning tool. I called up the game, used the arrows to select the new model, and...

only the middle section had changed color to blue; the ends were still green.

I checked the 'loco' artwork; it shows no green at all, only blue. All stages of the process were completed with no errors, the same way I have reskinned other trains. And no, this loco has no tender...

I've tried it several times and I get the same result. What's going on here?!

I wonder if this is connected to the "moving parts" syndrome & it is still looking at the original skin for some parts of the model.

I hadn't thought of that. I wonder if there's any way to check that out...

The original loco a double-jointed, 3-piece chassis for tight curves but I don't know if the RRT3 Bipolar is jointed. I'll have to go check that out and I'll let you know what I find.

It would be a pity if there was no way to repaint it - it's a lovely beast.

Why do you not share them with the community? (And if you do, where can I find them?)

Well, I was just doing these for my own pleasure. Some of the logos are historic, like the Lehigh, the N&W, the L&N - but the locos aren't, I just wanted a way to tell my trains from those others. I've also hit on a sneaky way to tell train age at a glance, just change the paint job every decade. :)

If you'd like, I'll zip them up and make them available.

Other than the Bipolar, I've had no trouble thanks to the skinning tips & hints I've seen posted on the various forums.

Does anyone have a particular logo or train skin they'd like to see?

Yes, please.

Well, I prefer to be able to have the same livery on all the different traintypes. My favorite historical liveries are the BNSF orange, black & yellow heritage II, the LNER apple green, the GWR or the LMS red and PRR liveries.

Let's see... that's 60 trains in each color? Times 5 sets of liveries? No, I don't think I have the time to do that. :D

Perhaps you could pick 2 or 3 trains (and an alternate in case of trouble) and, say, 2 liveries? And I'll see what I can do. :)

Just choose the ones you like, but if you really want specific targets then skin the Class A1 in LNER apple green and the GP & SD series diesels in the BNSF heritage II.
