View Full Version : Save your artwork FYI

Each time a map is saved over itself in the editor the artwork seems to degrade a bit. The more saves the more the artwork is changed or lost from what it was.

To save my artwork I alway save each time with a new name. (I never overwrite the old name of the map)

To make saving easier, I don't like to scroll, I give the map a simple name with a single letter in the first spot. Normally an "A" then a space and the simple name. This puts the map at the top of the list. I end the name with a space and "99"

On my first save I change the 99 to 98 and save the map. This way the map is still at the top of the list, The 2nd save will be 97 and so on.
I save often after making only a few changes.

I thought I might do some work on my coal minors daughter map. Its name is now
"A Daughter's mine 34" I've have 66 saves so far.

I hope this is interesting and helpful to someone.

I'd love to know what causes this degradation, on my new all singing all dancing PC it doesn't happen. I can save a map many times over itself & can see no deterioration at all.

Same here. I still sometimes don't get a "minimap" to show up when starting a new scenario from a newly saved one, just a black square. If I open it in the editor and save it again, the map shows up. Maybe PJay would have some insight into the graphics degradation mentioned above.

I remember I promissed someone to look into that. He sent me a degraded version of one of the Poptop maps, so I can easy compare it to the original.

I completely forgot about that.

PJay: Don't be  about putting priorities in order. As a student, your first responsibility is your coursework, after your significant other of course (that's the teacher in me speaking  ). Next is personal mental health; it's important to your own enjoyment of life as well as others around you. Only after those three things are in order should you work on other projects such as graphic degradation, supply chain mods, building mods, loco mods, building creation programs, playing RT3, reading and posting your expertise on forum boards....... (and all the other burdons we've placed on your shoulders).

PJay, I'm the person who emailed you about the increasing brightness in the save games.

Since then I have purchased a new computer (which eliminated the problem) and finished 'Gilded Age'.

I am very sorry that I did not think to tell you that the problem had solved itself. So please - feel no  at all!

And thank you for your willingness to help - I think you're one of the good people. :)

Well, I looked into it now, but there is too much different to find an easy solution.

The filesizes don't even match...
