I just read a thing at the "other place" that Gathering is HISTORY :?:
It's in their Off Topic forum. Hey - If gathering changes, wonder what happens to the "other" forum?
Who knows, that may make this place THE PLACE to be :P :P :P :P :!: :!: :!:

It alreay is THE PLACE to be. It's like the little known after hours club the 8) people go to when the regular bars are closed.
I have no time to visit RTI because I'm too busy Beta testing Rat's map. I'll probably be 100 by the time I hit the goals

lol, well it's good to know that we are the official un-official after hours forum for the more serious RT players and scenario developers.
Long may we continue! :)

Rail Rat, I am playing your AZ Beta 3 and have tried a few strategies, just playing around. It is quite a piece of work and I do not find the MAP overlay distratcting, on my screen. I have not gotten far enough along to comment on anything long term, but I am having fun. Thanks again. Stoneman. :D

Is the "OTHER PLACE" History???? Been trying all day, but it seems dead. So does PopTop.
Went to Rockstar and Global Star (new Take 2 Publishers). Saw some old Gathering games, but not a word about RRT. Global Star site wasn't bad, but Rockstar REALLY SUCKED. No sign of a forum on either one.
Thats OK. RTI is pushing 60 :!: :!: :!: :!:
Never saw the Rockstar site, but Global Star is not bad. They published Airlines 2 which is another really really good game, very addictive, and also uses memory like water. Can't run it on any old computer.
Rat, did you take any of my suggestions for your new release?

Have a whole page full, mostly from you isii. I may have to invent a new city in Arizona and name it after you. You deserve more than just one mine after all the help you have been.
Also, did you hear about the new suburb of Tucson - - - Casey, Arizona. (or is it outside Prescott? :P :P :P
Well, Gwizz got a mine. After playing your game until the year 2078 (and I'm only 1000 pax loads away!), I think I'd rather have you name a recycling plant after me, it makes a whole lot more money
Casey, Arizona, huh? Well, I made my own city near Tucson and it's doing rather well. I think Casey should be located near Crown King, huh? 8)
Let me know when the fixes are done and I'll start the next run!
p.s., Isiiville is a good name for a town!

I was able to log on yesterday (Wednesday) but not this morning (Thursday). Even direct links to the different sub-forums don't work. Could be the hackers at it again and the site is down for technical updates?

Their server doesn't even seem to be responding to pings or to access directly by IP address, so either it's down or it's gone. I guess only time will tell.Is the "OTHER PLACE" History???? I am honoured to be considered for a mention of a city on your map. "Casey" Arizona sounds great. Not so sure about a mine, 'casue I'm a little claustrophobic, you know? Thanks anyway.
Hey, Az Rial Rat, I will be looking forward to the new Open Range version.
Thanks again

Several possible scenarios here. We ALL have gotten so good at speculation (waiting for RRT updates), no reason we can't continue that tradition . . . :P :P :P
In order of "desireability"?
A - Server got hacked. Maybe reason for some people seeing 'HELL". Funny though they would redirect site to Take2 but no time to explain there what is going on.
B - Gathering is dead, but Forum in its entirety is being transferred to Global Star (which has no forums I could find). Since there are seveal games on Gathering Forum, and not all go to Global Star, some poor slob has to separate them out and redirect. If this is true, was pretty RUDE of them to just go away one day. Why not at least a 24 or 48-hour warning?
C - Gathering is dead - No coordination to transfer Forums - Global Star starts up one from scratch - HOURS of work by all of us are LOST to the bit bucket - EVERYONE has to resign up - Bonne and Mack can return
D - Gathering is dead - Global Star don't do forums - again HOURS of work and ENDLESS KNOWLEDGE LOST - BUT, on the PLUS SIDE . . .
RAILROADTYCOON.INFO becomes THE RRT forum and is paid royalties by Global Star for SERVICES RENDERED. I'm sure 1,000 quid a month would take care of it, hey Station Master :?: :?: :?: :?: :?: :P :P :P :P

http://www.Railroadtycoon3.com is now showing an Apace test page so
A) the sites are being transferred elsewhere
OR
B) they're gone
I dont suppose someone is hacking all the RT3 sites so it looks like a tidy up exercise of some sort - This doesnt look to me like a server undergoing routine maintenance.

I am logged in to Gathering RT3 Forum looking at the Megathread right now (6:35 PM EDT). Appears normal. Stoneman.

The webmaster had to rebuild the server, so all should now be well.

Since Take-2 made a change in high level management for its' different holdings. What these new people will do is anyones guess.
I doubt they will close the forums. I would guess there is little expense to keep them running. Even if a business site is closed, it shouldn't take more than a few days to reasign or transfer the forums. Hopefully nothing was lost when the server was down.
The lack of sensitivity in this change seems to lack perfessionalism.
But then, maybe their garden was fertilized by an elephant. Thus they could be up to their ears in work.
---------------------------------------------I wish I could figure out why it takes so long to log into this forum and to post. This is the only site that gives me this problem. My cookies are allowed. Any ideas?

Not sure exactly when we'll migrate but hopefully that will make things a bit faster.
I've noticed that it takes a while as well. Perhaps it's a virus checking issue?

Remember, for many of US, those packets have to "cross the pond". Depending on connections, it might take US longer. They don't call it the information "highway" for nothing. Only so many lanes for so much traffic. Pickup or Porsche sometimes matters not. :P :P :P :P
HEY STATION MASTER - YOU'VE HIT 60 :!: :!: :!: :!:
Remember when there were only 8 of us?
Who are all these "and" people anyway    :?:
I don't think the slow down issues are the server's problem. It seems more like a connection problem.
The connection to this site used to be pretty slow in the beginning, but now everything runs pretty smooth. (I live in Belgium)

?
I was wrong in my assumptions re the sites  . An email I got from the (rockstargames.com) webmaster when I queried the server problems indicated the gathering server was "compromised" and needed a rebuild, hence the downtime. take2games.com, railroadtycoon3.com and rockstargames.com IP addresses are very close to one another, and so are probably co-located.
The webmaster probable needs a good rest this weekend after the hard work getting it all back.
I apologise for all my darker thoughts :(
I get good response from this site - being in the UK does help

Been away all week training sprogs so I missed this edifying thread.
I've only found this site slow on a couple of occasions & never on a Friday or Saturday night, so my assumption is that it relates directly to the Webmasters Guiness consumption :)

Mr Webmaster does like his Guinness, unfortunately Guinness does not agree with Webmaster. Mrs Webmaster does not allow Mr Webmaster more than one pint of Guinness of an evening. :(
Actually I must admit that with my weekend activities (Motorsport Rescue/Medic) I don't drink as much as I used to :(
