PopTop recommend Photo Shop
I use Paint Shop Pro 8.1
I'm going to give The Gimp a try on the new PC

I use PhotoShop with the plug-in to be able to edit DDS (DirectDraw Surface) files. Now that we can unpack and pack PK4 files, it opens up a whole new world of modding (although I haven't had time to explore this area yet.)
Does the GIMP have a DDS plug-in? How about PaintShop Pro?
I have been trying free stuff that came with my digital camera and printer to make a very simple logo. It is all made and saved 128x128.tga, but I can't make the convert program work. I need serious help here, because I have train skins and player pictures to do.
Has anyone worked with GIMP? I can not figure out that website, so GIMP is not even uploaded to my computer. Can someone navigate me through this thing?
Alternatively, would someone like to take on this part of my project for me? I think we are talking about one logo, two or three portraits and perhaps five locomotives. I have scans of the dudes, and some gifs off the net that demonstrate a locomotive colour scheme that can be used.
I haven't done any player portraits, but I have done logos and trains and I'm willing to experiment with portraits. I've got a recent version of PaintShop Pro and it works fine. Send me your stuff and as thorough an explanation as possible to porterhopson@excite.com or porterhopson@aol.com (the excite mail sometimes bounces large attachments; send it to both).

http://gimp-win.sourceforge.net/stable.html
How I got there :
www.gimp.org (pure guess in the title bar of firefox)
=>gimp for windows (in the menu at the left)
=>automated installer
=>download (in the menu at the left)
But I know that site was a lot more clumpsy to navigate the last time I visited it. If you want some tutorials : http://www.gimp.org/tutorials/
Thanks PJay. I think I found my mistake. I thought I was supposed to go to the mirror websites - one of the ones that take up, oh, 90% of the download page. Of course, when I got to those sites there was nothing there about gimp. It is the blue writing at the top you need to click on. :o
EPH thanks for the offer. I think I will struggle on my own for a bit. But keep up the good work. I like the tiger  .

I've been working on creating logos myself, but I'm having trouble getting the graphics programs to cooperate (I'm a pretty good computer jockey, but graphics are not my strong suit.). Would someone be willing to convert this one into game format for me please? (It's the ol' Central Pacific's actual logo, as near as I can tell.)

Hi captboulanger!
I'll be glad to take a look at it for you. Please send me your email address by PM.
Done! :D
The design has a thick white border around it which I assume you want to keep. If not, let me know.
I'll send you the graphic file and the 'game-ready' file to put in the User Extra Content folder.
