Where is the freedom train stored?
in portland, the freedom train and the 4449 daylight are the same train but diffrent plating and tender here is a blurb from a website i found AFT Locomotive #4449 (http://www.freedomtrain.org/html/aft_consist_4449_today.htm): Doubtless the most photographed locomotive in the world, the former Southern Pacific GS-4 is the property of the City of Portland Oregon. It was repainted to Daylight colors a few years after the Bicentennial. In the 1980's it pulled a consist of matching cars from Portland to New Orleans for the World's Fair and starred, along with Burt Lancaster and Kirk Douglas, in Disney's "Tough Guys". In recent years she sported an all-black "War Baby" paint scheme, but returned to her beautiful red, white, and blue American Freedom Train colors from March 2002 to March 2004. Now back in Daylight orange, red and black, the locomotive is under the care of the friends of sp 4449
I've only been hanging out at Hawk's forums lately, haven't even logged in here since 2006! My username got corrupted from "wp&p" in that time, which gave me a hard time trying to log back in.
Anyways, here is what I posted on Hawk's site, which is really a reply to this thread:
Thanks for the heads-up. I didn't think that forum was still active.
I think I have enough projects going already! It wouldn't be difficult to skin a "Chessie Steam Special" or "American Freedom Train", assuming good profile views of the cars can be found one the web, but I'm not so sure that people would want to use them in a more general way. Once you skin a passenger car, all passenger cars look that way (during that era); you can't create a one-off train set that is different from your other trains. How many people would want all their passenger trains to look like a late 70's excursion?
I guess it might be possible to create a unique cargo type (called "railfans?) that get produced only during the excursion years, and thus dedicate a unique car type to carry railfans (as a freight-type cargo), and that could give you an individual train set. But 1.06 uses up most if not all of the available cargo slots.
well i actully can find good profiles of the cars if you want them, their easy to get
