The RailroadTycoon.info forum is now the starting point for a new and hopefully exciting family of forums for other strategy games.
Your usernames and passwords from the old RailroadTycoon.Info forum SHOULD work but if they don't then please drop me an e-mail to webmaster@strategygametalk.com and I'll check them as necessary.
Over the coming months we hope to add more games and more forums. If you can think of a game that needs a forum and are happy to help run that games forum then please send me a Private Message and we can see about setting things up.

This forum is going to take some getting used to. I had a heck of a time trying to find the link to send a PM.
I'm not to crazy about having to log in every time I visit though. As a matter of fact, I was logged in and sent a PM then made a post, but had to log in again to make this post.
No smileys either I see, other than the ones used for the post header. I had to edit my sig because of no smileys. After I edited my sig I automatically got logged out again. Had to log back in to edit this post. Not good.

Hmmm, there should be smilies :) as for logging in each time, there should be a "remember me" box in the top right of the screen, if that's ticked then it should keep you logged in for future visits.
It's possible I turned off smilies in sigs, I'll have to check the control panel. Yes, vBulletin is a bit different from phpBB but it's also more secure, copes better with larger databases (not a problem here yet, I admit) and also has better features such as multi-quote, AJAX support (stops the forum having to reload the WHOLE page when you quick reply, among other things) and has a great "plug-in" system which makes extending the functionality easier.

I've also just changed the style to use a two column "postbit" with all the user info on the left hand side, personally I prefer this layout :)

Auto login worked OK yesterday at work once the initial "you is banned" problem was resolved. In fact, I was auto logged in when I got the banned message and could not view site at all.
This being first new post, will have to see how things work. Interesting this and the registration forum come across in blue, while the RRT3 one is the old brown.
OH - I see the Quick Reply has no smileys, but clicking GO ADVANCED has them for the post title. Have yet to figure out how to add them in the message.

I still have to log in each time I stop by here. As a matter of fact I logged in this time and when I tried to reply to this post I had to log in again. That was about 30 seconds after I logged in the first time.
Oh yea! I do check the 'Remember Me' box every time. Doesn't matter though. The forum won't remember me. :-(
As Rat said, the only smileys are for the post titles. No way to add them in line in a post.
Edit 1: I thought of something else to add to this post and had to log in again to edit.
You mentioned that the maps are still here but how do you get to them?

As Rat said, the only smileys are for the post titles. No way to add them in line in a post.Smilies are available either by typing in the shortcut or if you use the "Go Advanced" button you can get the advanced editor that lets you select the smilies from a list although common ones like :) for :) will work automagically.
You mentioned that the maps are still here but how do you get to them?Either go into the RailroadTycoon forum (http://www.strategygametalk.com/forumdisplay.php?f=3), where the top navigation will show the old site menus or go to the "front door" of the original site at www.railroadtycoon.info (http://www.railroadtycoon.info)

Gah, my bad, I forgot that the default setting for people is to only see the "basic" editor when they "Go Advanced" (Sounds a bit silly doesn't it!) I've changed that now to use the fully editor, so to add a smilie you can just click on it from the list on the right.

Oops! My bad.
Turns out it was a cookie issue. I've just recently started using Firefox and it handles cookies a little differently than what I'm used to.
When using IE I always used a utility called 'Cookie Pal' but it doesn't work with Firefox and although I had Firefox set up to allow cookies, only after asking me, it wasn't asking me about this site but automatically blocking it.
I added this site to the 'Allow' list but it still wouldn't recognize this site. I ended up deleting all blocked cookies and starting from scratch. Now it accepts cookies from this site.
It seems to be working so far.
I see we now have Smilies too.

Well, I guess you having editing of posts set to a time limit. You can't edit a post within 5 minutes of a previous edit and after a while it seems you can't edit posts at all.
The smilies don't seem to be working for me. I've made sure there is no check mark in the box below that says 'Disable smilies in text', and have check the CP Options.
I can see the selection of smilies on the right and at the top but when I add one it doesn't show up in the post.
Edit 1: Well they wouldn't work in my previous post but they work now. Strange!
Edit 2: OK! They seem to work in the original post but not when you edit.
Edit 3: This forum software is going to take some getting used to me thinks. LOL!

Well, I guess you having editing of posts set to a time limit. You can't edit a post within 5 minutes of a previous edit and after a while it seems you can't edit posts at all.Editing should let you edit it within 5 minutes of a previous edit and yes there is a fixed limit after which a post can't be edited by the user.
Edit 2: OK! They seem to work in the original post but not when you edit.If you click the "Edit" button on a post it opens an AJAX editor directly in the post (did you notice it doesn't re-load the page, neat!) this editor has very basic controls in it, if you then click the "Go Advanced" button it'll re-open the big mega funky editor with the menus and smilies and stuff.
Edit 3: This forum software is going to take some getting used to me thinks. LOL!Yeah, but ultimately it's more powerful and sometimes there's a learning curve :(

I thought I had tried that. Let me test that again.
Edit 1: I guess I did something wrong before.

OK, next bitch:
I was able to add an avatar to my profile, but "Edit Avatar" on User CP does not let me add one for posts. Did I miss something?
Is this thing to complicated for an engineer to understand?:confused::confused:

Seems to have worked for me.
Edit 1: I had to edit this post to get a smilie in after the line above. It didn't work on the first post, even though I clicked on it.
Edit 2: Well, neither smilie worked on the initial post or in the first edit. Let's see if they work on the second edit.
Edit 3: Well, the heck with it. Sometimes they work and sometimes they don't. Weird!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Addendum to Edit 3 above, since it seems I passed the 5 minute mark.

At least the avatar worked. Maybe if I do away with the avatar the smilies will come back.

I've changed the edit time limit to 20 minutes now.Cool! Thanks. :D
That's really weird as I've no problems seeing the smilies in the advanced editor and also getting 'em by typing them inWell, I just click on the appropriate smilie. I don't see any code to use to type them in.
Edit 1: Well, one smilie worked and one didn't.

Ok, the plot thickens! I THINK it's to do with the fact that the import process tried to import some of the old phpBB smilies, I'll take a look and see what can be done to reset them.

Right, that should be most of 'em working now, I'll keep plugging away at them. I've also increased the limit, I didn't realise there was a limit of 4 images per post and that smilies counted towards it.
They keep adding new features to the forum software, I really should read the update notifications ;) ;)

Now it's all starting to make sense. Some smilies worked and some didn't. ;)
I also see now where I was missing the code to manually type them in.
It seems both lists of smilies work too. :-D
OK! That's four smilies so far. Here's #5 (just testing ya' know  )
Edit 1: Test! Test! 1-2 Test :razz:8)
Edit 2: Well done WM:!: Well done:!: Thank you kindly. :-D
