Hey WM,
What happened to the forum yesterday? Did you forget to pay your bill?
Glad to see it back up with no apparent loss of substance. :D

Hey WM,

Glad to see it back up with no apparent loss of substance. :DFunnily enough we'd just paid our last invoice from the colocation company on Wednesday.
Apparently at 1am on Sunday night there was a fibre break which took out the exchange and all three of our hosting companies uplinks. Apparently they had ordered "redundancy" from the telco but the telco had routed all three circuits through the same exchange. This ALSO took out the hosting companies main PRI (phone lines), luckily I have been a customer for a long time and had the old (obsolete) copper wire analog phone number which is served from a different exchange.
Obviously we were at the mercy of the telco to fix this fibre issue.
I will be following with interest what the hosting company actually DO to resolve this issue as I'm not happy with all the redundancy being through a single exchange. Kind of defeats the purpose of redundancy!

Seems like all they'd have to do is re-route the redundancy, but that may be to simple of an idea  -or; there might be things I don't understand. :?

:lol:Ideally the fibre into the building should be routed over multiple exchanges and ideally over multiple carriers. Obviously when dealing with multiple carriers it's a bit of a pain but that's what project managers get paid for :)
As an example, my other half is a telecoms manager and designs call centers (well, at infrastructure level not the "what colour should we paint the walls" level) and in all her sites there's at least four fibres into the building, usually with two providers and from two or more different exchanges.
Ah well... I'm awaiting a full formal response from the hosting company and we'll see what can be done about the issue. To be fair to them, whenever they've had a major problem they aren't afraid to spend money on sorting out infrastructure.
I remember being with them when their internet connectivity was on a single copper line... lol ;)

Oh no!!!!!! I'm seeing double!!!!!!!!

It seems that the big companies don't have as much concern for their customers as they should. It would be a smart move if they did, but I don't think they see it that way.

They cost more but the services is pretty damn good :) :) :)
