Extending a train engine's lifespan

Hello All! :D

After trying unsuccessfully to register at the "Other Site" I found RTI!

I have been working on a map of Japan and I want to extend the Shinkansen's lifespan past 1980 cause "HELLO!" it is still in use today...sheesh!

Is there a way to do it?

It can't be programmed in the map editor or by playing.

There is a cheat: you can get all locos for all time periods if you press "." A dialog will come up in which you type "trains are in my blood". But that is not an honest solution if you are trying to make a scenario that others can play.

You could just make sure that a similar loco is available in the time frame that you want it available. I am working on a North American scenario that has a couple of locos more like the European ones than the ones normally available in North America, so I will make them available. Their performance and era are correct even if they aren't the exact historical model.

Yes, add the loco to its own event with the date you want the loco to be made available. It should stay available for the rest of the game. Or for as long as you want.

With the above post saying no, I'll say I think I have done it. I know this can be done in RRT2. Now I'll have to go back to check if it really can be done in RRT3.

JayEff is correct. There are no locos listed in the editor that can be evented. :(
I think I must have changed the date of my map to get the loco I wanted when I wanted it. :roll: :?

Gwizz, when I was working on 'Getaway Special' I found out that you can event a loco early but not keep it after the expiration date. Oh, and if you bring it in early by event you still get the announcement on the usual date.

You would think that if you could event an engine early you could event an engine later.

I can't see another train that is electric with the same capabilities to use after 1980 to replace the Shinkansen with...suggestions guys?

This game engine needs some more robust map building options. I hate hacking things to make them work. They should just work!

I have added the Trans-Euro in for 1980 as a replacement for the Shinkansen. Now on to bigger and better things!
