The server crashed while I was trying to upload my contest entry so I put it on my "website". I'm leaving on vacation for a week starting today, so I don't have time to try and upload it again.

It can be found here: http://www.msu.edu/user/bowlby/rrt3/WMDs.zip

It's called "Weapons of Mass Destruction" and takes place in the fictitious country of Qair whos evil dictator, Maddas Nushies has been forced into hiding followin a U.S. invasion ordered by President Weggo Shrub. Your mission is to find the WMDs and move them to a disposal site.

I've had a lot of other things going on rrecently: "Thing" testing, household chores, and writing a textbook chapter, so I didn't have time to thouroughly test and refine the map, but I think it plays OK.

If possible, could Webmaster download from my site and place it on the entries list? I also don't have a mapshot, so if WM could find it in his (or her) heart to make one and post it with the map I would appreciate it.

Thanks all for trying it out. I'll be playing other entries when I get back.

This map, along with a screenshot of the basic map has now been uploaded to the Contest page.

It looks like it's going to be an interesting map to play :)

Well, I got this one, and yours-WM, but I think I'm going to wait until I'm done with Paphalophagus to really check them out.

This was the second map I played - brilliant idea and all the events worked beautifully so I'd expected to get Gold pretty easily but never did. I'm afraid I wont be voting for it as there are several serious flaws which is a pity because it's such a great, bang up to date, idea.

1. There's no Game Status so you've no idea how you're doing
2. This is particularly true when you've found all the sites and are hauling the weapons to port. You've simply no idea if they've got there or what so
3. As I didn't register a win I built a weapons factory at 3 of the 4 sites (the 4th already had one) and kept playing - and carried umpteen loads BUT
4. Custom Consist didn't work - I had the trains carrying weapons only - but whilst they carried some weapons mostly it was other things - don't see how this could be anything you've done
5. The one preplaced weapons factory didn't produce any wepons so I sent custom consist tyres and steel trains to it (same result as 4) but it still didn't produce any!
6. The game didn't stop after 15 years - I must have played for much longer (about 25 years) with no result win or lose - so I packed it in.

Fix these and it would be a great scenario

With only 15 events allowed, I decided to not spend one on a status event. In retrospect it would have been very helpful if I had.

There should have been 4 sites of WMD production. For some reason, a factory doesn't always get placed where it's supposed to. It may be that if the cell the game decides on for placement is occupied, it just doesn't place any factory at all. I originally had only one factory, but it didn't always show up, so I made four sites. Apparently that may still not be enough.

6. The game didn't stop after 15 years - I must have played for much longer (about 25 years) with no result win or lose - so I packed it in.

Again, with limited events I didn't want to spend one on a "Lose" event.

Thanks for the endorsement. Perhaps if you started afresh, things would work out.

p.s. If you want to add a "Status" event to help keep track of things I have no objection.

 This is why I was against this limit. It only results in maps of lesser quality, just because we restricted ourselves more than needed.

Or maybe you could argue this map to be too professional and should enter the experienced category.

[quote="PJay  This is why I was against this limit. Perhaps the next contest will increase the number of events available or force specific win conditions, or whatever devlish things we can devise :)

I'm certainly looking at all the comments and taking a lot of things onboard for the next one :)

It would have been nice to have 15 events, not counting Bronze, Silver, Gold, Loose, and Status. I think they should be a given. There's been a couple comments made about the lack of status reports.
Just think about the dastardly deeds I could have done with 5 more events.

Honestly, I'm anxious to get started on a new map, but-the more I think about it, the more I think I'll wait until "The Thing" rears it's head.

As with most scenarios, I started with industry for a couple of years. Given the need for high delivery count, this might not be best.

I also had a few issues with this scenario, realizing they were either author's intent or the 15 event limit.

I knew it was necessary ot connect certain cities and get high annual deliveries but had no idea whatsoever as to the consequences, success or failure of those requirements, and same with weapons delivery. As a result I connected all cities and got load hauls up high, but not in the best time. I also did this to negate my mid-game look in the editor to write my own status report.

Secondly, I dislike requirements that cannot be measured with events. Evenso, I strove to manufacture and deliver weapons from the desired locations at the desired time. I'm being somewhat vague here and trust the author sees all the implications of this. But the remark that the locations might not all exist threw me off when one of them was misspelled. Did that mean I wasn't to deliver from there? I did anyhow. I got the requisite factories but built 2nd stations in half the cities to cover the factories.

I had all cities connected 3/12 and hauled 463 in 2009 and 600+ thereafter. Weapons factories were announced and placed 2/13. Weapons deliveries completed 9/14.

Playing on hard, running 36 USA 103's, CBV 81.7M, CoCash 15.2M.

The scenario played well anyhow.
